They are easy to play and very nimble to control. It slots well and is easy to maneuver throughout the range. I just gave it a sonic clean and it has a wonderful core and clarity to the sound. It features a removable red brass bell, inline hagmann valves, Rath hand brace, tuning sleeves for alternate tuning systems, 3 gold plated Rath contrabass trombone mouthpieces and a Glenn Cronkhite gig bag. The advantage of a TIS trombone is the full conical back bow yielding a warm and focused sound with superior slotting due to the consistent taper expansion at this critical part of the instrument. The bell of this trombone is an Elkhart and according to Mr. Nienauber is a sterling silver bell (I cannot confirm this, as I've not heard of any Elkhart bells being made of sterling) regardless it is a stunning trombone to play and to look at. Having said that, it is an old school trombone and does not play like a modern Shires or Rath but if you're after that familiar sound you have in your head, this might be your horn. The euphonium is a large bore instrument, taking a standard large shank trombone mouthpiece. This model is the A-800, which is modeled after the Conn 8D. It has a 2RVE bell flare (red brass, vintage Conn style) in standard weight, a special "Ralph Sauer" Shires rotary valve (this is the same rotor on the Sauer signature trombone) with open wrap tubing, TW47 slide (.547" tenor crook) and a yellow brass tuning slide. $650 with original case, On Trial, Another ultra rare .525" medium bore Conn trombone. This one is special, as it was ordered in the style of a Bach bass trombone with tuning in the slide. It's a smaller bore instrument, which was typical of the time, and includes the original mouthpiece, which is a standard small shank taper. The bell is stamped 3332223CFB bell (thick stem and thin flare, it plays AMAZING), it has an Edwards axial valve (thayer) with edge bracing. Comes with a protec case. Overall in very nice condition and a superb playing bass trombone. Absolutely beautiful vintage Bach 37ML trumpet in great shape, with original lacquer which has patina to a nice honey color. The valve section is from a 1920s Conn Fuchs bass trombone, closed wrap in red brass tubing, custom conn style seamed gold brass Hoelle tuning slide with a Conn 88H slide with removable press fit pipe. This horn has a one piece beryllium Minick bell, custom Minick open wrap valve, Elkhart 88H slide with removable leadpipe and straight neck pipe. This particular Conn is a vintage model, currently owned by Alan Kaplan. Gold plated inside the bell flare, solid sterling silver 8" bell with a .508" nickel slide with yellow slide crook. Makes a nice classic Bach sound. This model has a .547" slide and rotary F attachment with a hybrid open wrap/closed wrap. These can be applied to individual parts or to a complete instrument, giving you the opportunity to create an instrument uniquely yours. L'Angelier was a very skilled custom builder that only did a handful of custom bass trombones before he stopped. Otherwise, Bob's instruments are identical to Earl's. I think these are great little horns and fill the void in the market for trombonists looking for that 2B sound but wanting something with bigger cojones.
